Fire and Wind

Fire was feeling angry at the world. It did not know why. It was Fire, it did not need a why. It started as a spark in a patch of dry grass. Fire hoped that letting its anger out would help. It found that even when the patch of grass was reduced to ash it still felt angry. The spark of anger grew, becoming a flame among the shrubs. Once again, when the shrubs were ash, it still felt angry. Fire's anger swelled and became a roaring flame that began to burn a tree.

As Fire burned leaves and branches and trunks, Wind became aware of the flickering flames. It blew down to ask Fire, “What is wrong, my old friend, why are you burning the trees?”

Fire said, “I am angry and want to be rid of my anger!”

“But this is no way to do it!” replied Wind.

Paying no attention, Fire began to leap from tree to tree, continuing to devour the forest. Watching the chaos, Wind too grew angry, frustrated at Fire’s stubbornness. Wind blew as hard as it could to try and stop Fire from spreading any further. As Wind blew, Fire only grew angrier, the flames growing hotter, burning brighter, causing more and more devastation.

The cycle continued. Fire burning and Wind blowing. Eventually there was nothing left to burn. With heaps of ash where the forest once stood, their anger turned to sorrow as a breeze blew across the blackened earth. The pair realised they had lost their home.
